Life Safety Device Inspection Mainteance and Repair
Smoke and Heat Detectors
Having a functional fire alarm system is of the utmost importance for any public building. To ensure the fire alarm system is functioning properly and efficiently, it needs to be inspected on a regular basis. The BC Fire Code mandates that monthly system inspections and annual fire alarm inspection.
Smoke and heat detectors are part of the fire protection system. When checking the dtectors BC Fire Safe Protection Services performs the following checks:
- Visual Inspection
- Thrermal Activation Testing
- Smoke Entry
- Sensitivity
BC Fire Safe Protection Services will notify proper authorities prior to testing, including any offsite monitoring (central station) as well as any building management, security and occupants, that the system will be undergoing maintenance, the audible/visible appliances may be activated and the system will be temporarily out of service.
BC Fire Safe Protection Services will provide the building owner or manager with a list of deficiencies. If required we can recommend competent and qualified elecrical contractors to correct any deficiencies.
Emergency and Exit Lighting
Properly installed and maintained Emergency/ Exit lighting enables people to see clearly and avoid obstacles while moving quickly to the nearest exit and to safety in an emergency situation.
Many people will notice a small test switch that is usually located on the side of the light unit and think that toggling that switch every so often will suffice for a test. This is not so! It is very important that the emergency light unit be test properly by a qualified electrician. There are a few necessary items that need to be checked in order to ensure the unit will work as intended in the event of an emergency or power interruption.
Our work is performed as per the National Fire Code, Section 6.5.1.6, to ensure that pilot lights are clean and unobstructed, and the battery surface is clean and dry.

- Cleaning terminals and connections, and lubricating as necessary, to ensure they are free of corrosion

- Testing of charging voltage and current to ensure charging system is functioning according to manufacturer specifications.
